Ingredients#

  • 9 lasagna noodles

  • 1 tbsp olive oil

  • 1 lb ground beef

  • 1 lb Italian sausage (hot or sweet)

  • 4 cans (15 oz each) tomato sauce

  • 1 can (16 oz) sliced mushrooms, drained (optional)

  • 1 tsp garlic salt

  • 1 tsp dried oregano

  • ½ tsp dried thyme

  • ¼ tsp dried basil

  • Salt & black pepper to taste

  • 15 oz ricotta cheese

  • 3 large eggs, beaten

  • ⅓ cup grated Parmesan cheese

  • 1 lb shredded mozzarella cheese

Instructions#

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. Cook meat sauce: In a large pot, cook ground beef and sausage over medium heat until browned; drain excess fat. Stir in tomato sauce, mushrooms, garlic salt, oregano, thyme, and basil. Season with salt and pepper. Simmer for 30 minutes.

  3. Cook noodles: Boil lasagna noodles in salted water with olive oil until al dente (8–10 minutes). Drain.

  4. Prepare cheese mixture: In a bowl, mix ricotta cheese, eggs, and Parmesan.

  5. Assemble layers:

    • Spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking dish.

    • Add 3 noodles, then ⅓ of ricotta mixture, ¼ of mozzarella, and ⅓ of meat sauce.

    • Repeat layers two more times, finishing with mozzarella on top.

  6. Bake: Cover with foil if cheese browns too quickly. Bake for 90 minutes until bubbly and golden.

  7. Rest: Let sit for 10–15 minutes before slicing and serving.
