Secret grandma recipe#
Ingredients#
9 lasagna noodles
1 tbsp olive oil
1 lb ground beef
1 lb Italian sausage (hot or sweet)
4 cans (15 oz each) tomato sauce
1 can (16 oz) sliced mushrooms, drained (optional)
1 tsp garlic salt
1 tsp dried oregano
½ tsp dried thyme
¼ tsp dried basil
Salt & black pepper to taste
15 oz ricotta cheese
3 large eggs, beaten
⅓ cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 lb shredded mozzarella cheese
Instructions#
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
Cook meat sauce: In a large pot, cook ground beef and sausage over medium heat until browned; drain excess fat. Stir in tomato sauce, mushrooms, garlic salt, oregano, thyme, and basil. Season with salt and pepper. Simmer for 30 minutes.
Cook noodles: Boil lasagna noodles in salted water with olive oil until al dente (8–10 minutes). Drain.
Prepare cheese mixture: In a bowl, mix ricotta cheese, eggs, and Parmesan.
Assemble layers:
Spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking dish.
Add 3 noodles, then ⅓ of ricotta mixture, ¼ of mozzarella, and ⅓ of meat sauce.
Repeat layers two more times, finishing with mozzarella on top.
Bake: Cover with foil if cheese browns too quickly. Bake for 90 minutes until bubbly and golden.
Rest: Let sit for 10–15 minutes before slicing and serving.
